The apartment smelled of incense and iron. Aarav sat on the floor, back against the wall, wrists bound with a sacred thread soaked in turmeric and blood. His chest rose and fell too fast, too shallow.

Rukhsana pushed Arjun inside.

“Nice place,” he said, looking around. “Very… spiritual.”

The lights flickered.

Aarav lifted his head. For one moment, his eyes were his own.

“Ruks—” he tried.

Then his shoulders split. Not flesh. Shadow.

Two serpents emerged, vast and ancient, their bodies made of darkness and memory. They hissed, not with sound, but with need.

Arjun staggered back. “What the f—”

Zohak spoke through Aarav’s mouth, voice layered, patient.

“Do not waste the fear. It sweetens the mind.”

Rukhsana stood frozen, guilt clawing up her throat.

“I brought him,” she said. “Now let Aarav go.”

A serpent brushed her cheek, cold as a grave.

Love does not cancel hunger.

Arjun screamed as the shadows closed in. Rukhsana turned away before it became too much to bear. She heard it anyway.

When it was done, Aarav collapsed, breathing deep and easy, for the first time in weeks.

Alive.

Fed.

Rukhsana slid down the wall, retching.

Zohak sighed, satisfied.

“Once,” he said. “It was the villagers. Sons. Scholars. My curse has not evolved. Only the cities have.”

She looked up at him, eyes hollow. “How long?”

Zohak smiled through her lover’s face.

“Until you stop bringing them,” he said gently. “Or until there is nothing left of him.”

Her phone buzzed on the floor.

A new notification from Nasty Nights.

You have a new match.

Mumbai outside roared, indifferent, endless.
