The storms began to come less often. Weeks passed. His studio was filled with unfinished canvases, all waiting for a woman who might never return. The ache in his fingers became constant now, no thunder required.

On the night she finally came again, the storm was violent, almost desperate. Windows rattled. The city held its breath. She stood closer than ever before.

“I can’t keep coming,” she said. “You don’t need me anymore.”

He shook his head. “I never stopped.”

She smiled sadly. “You stopped seeing yourself through me.”

She guided his hand to the mirror for the first time in years. He saw it then, the same light, the same hunger. The same storm!

“You were never painting me,” she whispered. “You were painting the part of you that wakes up when the world breaks open.”

Lightning flashed.

When the storm ended, she didn’t vanish immediately. She lingered long enough for him to finish one last painting.

It wasn’t her.

It was him, standing in the rain, eyes open, unafraid.

Thunder has never visited the city the same way since. But sometimes, when rain falls hard enough, the artist smiles... because love, like a storm, doesn’t need to stay forever to change the landscape.
